We feel that, with our ongoing outreach efforts towards women in Computer Science (http://www.cs.uiuc.edu/outreach/diversity.php), we are an ideal institution to host one of the CRA-W events. =20 Scheduling Constraints: =20 Depending on scheduling flexibility, one appealing option would be to coordinate the Distinguished Lecture with UIUC's second annual Celebration of Women in Computing, scheduled for April 7-9, 2006. This event attracts women from all stages of the pipeline, from middle school through retirement. As one of the activities for the first annual event, April 1-3, 2005, women graduate students from UIUC demonstrated their research during a project expo, and opened their labs to middle school, high school, undergraduate, and community women. The CRA-W panel on graduate study would be a valuable addition to our program for 2006. In light of the groundswell of interest in undergraduate research, such a panel would be particularly well received. Finally, we would be most honored if a CRA-W Distinguished Lecturer could give the keynote address for the celebration on April 7, 2006. =20 If coordinating the CRA-W event with our Celebration of Women in Computing is not possible, we would prefer to host the event in the Fall semester. If possible, we would like to schedule the event for a Monday: preferably one of: Aug. 29th, Sept. 19th or 26th, Oct. 10th or 24th, Nov. 7th, 14th, or 28th, or December 5th. =20 Advertising: =20 UIUC has a strong Women in Computer Science (WCS) student organization who serve as a prime constituency for the event and will be engaged in planning and hosting the event. Furthermore, UIUC has an ongoing partnership with five other Eastern Illinois higher education institutions (Illinois State University, Eastern Illinois University, Bradley University, Parkland College, and Heartland College) to create new initiatives for recruitment and retention of women and minorities in Computer Science. We will work with these institutions to facilitate the attendance of as many of their women undergraduates as possible. =20 In addition to these more personal channels, we plan to promote the CRA-W Distinguished Lecture and coordinated events through the normal department and campus channels, which include mailing lists and calendars for the CS department, the College of Engineering, and National Center for Supercomputing Applications. In addition, we will contact other nearby universities (UI Chicago, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, etc.) for promotion at those campuses. =20 Contact People: =20 Host: =20 Dr. Cinda Heeren=20 2213 Siebel Center, 201 N.
